UHMWPE, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, is a thermoplastic resin with a molecular weight of more than 1 million, or even an unbranched linear polyethylene of more than 1.5 million. It is mainly polymerized from ethylene, and the production process is similar to ordinary slurry high-density polyethylene, which involves the polymerization, separation and drying of ethylene.

UHMWPE has a unique set of physical and chemical properties. Its density is between 0.920~0.964g/cm³, its heat distortion temperature (0.46MPa) is 85℃, and its melting point is 130~136℃. In addition, it comes in the form of non-toxic, odorless white powder or granules with low water absorption and a waxy feel. Polyethylene film has low water permeability and high air permeability, and is more suitable for moisture-proof packaging rather than fresh-keeping packaging. At the same time, UHMWPE also has good water resistance, but the surface of its products is non-polar, making it difficult to bond and print.

In terms of application fields, the excellent properties of UHMWPE have made it widely used. In the chemical industry, it is often used as wear-resistant parts and parts in contact with highly corrosive media, such as sealing plates, pump components, etc. In addition, UHMWPE also has important applications in the coal mining industry, textile industry, food industry, paper industry, sports equipment, ships, batteries, medical equipment and other fields. For example, it can be used to make conveyor components, leather knot covers, guide shafts, ski liners, etc.

In terms of preparation methods, the melting method is a common method for preparing UHMWPE. This method heats ethylene monomer and performs a polymerization reaction under the action of a catalyst to obtain polyethylene resin, and then undergoes stretching, pressing and other processing processes to finally obtain ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene.
